About the Area

About Proserpine, the Town named after a Goddess…

It’s not often you find a place that is so beautiful, it is named after a goddess by the explorer who found it.

It’s Proserpine – a beautiful little town set beside the banks of the Proserpine River, named after Persephone, the Greek Goddess of Spring (Proserpina is her latin name). The explorer who named Proserpine thought it was so lush and fertile – the epitome of Spring – that he named it after the Goddess of Spring.

Proserpine is a small country town of 4000 people, but it has both a public and private primary school, and a well-regarded state high school. A private high school is planned for 2010, and there is another private high school located in Cannonvale. Proserpine also has an 18 hole golf course, showgrounds, two supermarkets and one of the best regarded hospitals in Queensland. It’s also got a museum, and an entertainment cinema where movies and concerts are regularly held.

Proserpine is one of those places where people still say hello to each other down the main street, and in 2007 won the award for Queensland’s Friendliest Town in the Tidy Towns competition. It’s the kind of place that is beautiful to bring kids up in.

Natural highlights of Proserpine include Lake Proserpine (only one kilometre from Crystalbrook Retreat), Proserpine River, Conway National Park and Cedar Creek Falls.

About the Whitsundays…

The Whitsundays comprises a part of Northern Queensland in Australia including 74 islands and gorgeous coast. One of the top five beaches in the world – Whitehaven Beach – is just one of those islands.

The Whitsundays is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. A beautiful place for snorkelling, boating and watching dolphins and whales.

Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands, a colourful, cosmopolitan and inviting holiday town lying on the shores of a palm fringed beach and overlooking the calm waters of Pioneer Bay dotted with yachts. Airlie is part of the peninsula that reaches out to the Whitsunday Passage and is the place for relaxed food, shopping and coast fun.

It’s got a gorgeous holiday feel and ambience!

Every Saturday the foreshore parkland turns into a bustling market with stalls selling fresh fruit and veggies, local arts and crafts and all manner of goods under the shade of coconut palms. If you’re feeling called to grow fruit and veggies, the Foreshore Markets are the ideal place to sell each week.

The mainland’s dining and entertainment options centre around Airlie Beach, ranging from silver service resort dining to al fresco cafes and cheap eats, while Airlie’s clubs and bars provide plenty of entertainment well into the night.

The Airlie Beach Lagoon offers a safe place to swim year round. Just on the foreshore of Airlie Beach, the lagoon has 4.5 million litres of fresh, self chlorinated water and has a gorgeous view out to the Coral Sea and Whitsunday Islands. A beautiful place to spend Sunday afternoons!

Cannonvale

Cannonvale is on the way to Airlie Beach and is fast becoming a prominent business centre. There are two good size shopping centres, two primary schools (one public, one private), plus many other large businesses. Cannonvale is the support base for the boating and tourism industries, plus caters to the tastes and activities of younger families.

Crystalbrook Retreat is the best of both worlds… a gorgeous, quiet country lifestyle with all the tropical delights and more cosmopolitan comforts you could want.
